Morning Loverlies,
It’s Friday. I’m feeling super, super, lazy. LOL! So what’s new? I heard that! So as I was saying, It’s Friday and here at Emma’s House of Ill Repute we have a special on Fridays. It can be Flashback Friday, Fuck It Friday (Take that way which ever way you want) or Favorite Friday, it’s your choice. Not really, but it looked nice didn’t it. Okay, to be fair if you’d like to suggest something for Triple F Friday, feel free to email me.
And since one of my favorite people has a release today we’re decidated this Favorite Friday to her.
You may have seen these smilies and wondered W.T.F?
Well these are what I call Diddy signs. And who is Diddy do you ask? Well Diddy is this super awesome chick some of you (okay all of you) know as Karen Erickson. She’s also known as Clarice but only I’m allowed to call her that.
In honor of her latest release (What is this? Like number 20? Seriously, Clarice is not only talented and dirty (super dirty) she’s prolific.) Hidden, the first book in the Sin City Shifter series, Karen has come to visit us and discuss her work, her life and her addiction to internet porn. (LMAO. I AM SO KIDDING. She’s not addicted. She can stop anytime she wants to.)
Emma Petersen: Good Morning Karen. How are you doing this beautiful morning?
Karen Erickson: Well other than a little irritated at being made to look like a porn addict, I’m fine thank you very much.
Emma Petersen: (pointedly ignoring the first part of that.) Good, good. I heard you have a new release today. Would you like to tell us a little bit about it?
Karen Erickson: Well it’s called Hidden and it’s about a shadow dancer who has a little secret. She’s part dragon and she doesn’t want anyone to know about it, including the handsome hero.
Emma Petersen: So the title has a double meaning. Not only is she hidden behind a screen when she’s dancing but she’s also hidding her other nature? How awesome is that! How did you come up with the premise?
Karen Erickson: Actually I saw a special on the sexiest occupations in Las Vegas on the E! channel. And shadow dancers was one of them. I knew immediately I wanted to write about a shadow dancer one day and then I came up with the idea that my heroine will have something to hide. And there you have it…thanks E! LOL
Emma Petersen: Yeah E! Rocks!
Karen Erickson: E! does rock.
Emma Petersen: It so does. So tell us about your heroine, Daisy? (Love the name by the way!)
Karen Erickson: Daisy is part dragon and she feels ugly because of it. The only time she’s confident is when she’s behind that screen. And later when she’s in the arms of the hero Sebastian…she’s also funny. There are funny bits in this book. Well I thought they were funny. Eeek, I hope people who read it find it funny…
Emma Petersen: See I like that. A lot of heroines are uber confident or have the ugly duckling deal going on but Daisy has a true motivation for her feelings, that’s something you don’t see very often.
Karen Erickson: She just wants to be normal more than anything. The scales, the weird eyes, it all makes her uncomfortable in her own skin.
Emma Petersen: See and that oddly enough makes her so very relatable. Who hasn’t felt uncomfortable in their own skin? And so she meets Sebastian and do the sparks fly immediately or does she take a little bit of time to warm up to him? (Hehe. Dragon puns.)
Karen Erickson: The first time they “meet” is over the phone. He owns a nightclub, he wants Daisy to come work for him. She thinks his voice is sexy and agrees to meet him. Then panics because she doesn’t want to reveal her true self.
Karen Erickson: Where Daisy works is an unusual spot, the Swank Hotel in Las Vegas. All of the employees are…shifters. With the occasional witch thrown in for good measure.
Emma Petersen: Okay. And what happens when Sebastian finds out what Daisy’s been hiding. No. Wait! Don’t answer that. Readers won’t buy the cow if they get the milk for free. Instead if you could tell your readers one thing about this book, what would it be?
Karen Erickson: I can’t reveal all that! I gotta leave some secrets…
Emma Petersen: Since you won’t tell us your secrets. Can you tell us how long you’ve been writing?
Karen Erickson: I have been seriously writing for the past three years but always dabbled in writing since my early teens. My first series (yes I wrote a series way back when) was about me, my friends and how we married all the members of Duran Duran. I still have those crappy notebooks.
Emma Petersen: LOL! I’ve been trying not to say the word awesome so much but seriously guy,is there any other word for that? I think not! Which one were you married to?
Karen Erickson: Roger the drummer. He and my husband share the same birthday. Is that fate or what?
Emma Petersen: See you continue to surprise me. I totally took you for a Simon girl. And that totally is fate.
Karen Erickson: Mmm Simon was hot too.
Emma Petersen: Oh yes he was and still is. So what’s up next for you?
Karen Erickson: Well I’m working on the second novella in the Sin City Shifters series (which Hidden is the first book of). And I have a novella coming out in January at Samhain Publishing. It’s called Fortune’s Promise and is the second book in my lottery series…
Emma Petersen: Wow. You write full time AND have a beautiful and herd of cats you take care. Where do you find the time?
Karen Erickson: LMAO I do have a herd of cats. King cat is sitting on my lap as we speak. I don’t know where I find the time. I just make it happen baby
Emma Petersen: Yes you do. Go Karen. You totally rock it.
Emma Petersen: So before we conclude this interview we’re going to do a little exercise. I’m going to give you a word or phrase and you say the first thing that pops into your mind.
Emma Petersen: First word. Shia
Emma Petersen: Ah ah ah! No thinking. That’s cheating.
Karen Erickson: LOL I just saw this! I wasn’t thinking!
Emma Petersen: lol
Emma Petersen: ok
Karen Erickson: First one that came to mind? MINE
Karen Erickson: LOL
Emma Petersen: LMAO
Emma Petersen: Okay next one. Mail you my cats.
Karen Erickson: NO
Emma Petersen: LMAO. Didn’t have to think about that one did you?
Emma Petersen: Next one: World Domination
Karen Erickson: Me
Karen Erickson: lol
Emma Petersen: WOOT! And the last one is It puts the lotion on it’s skin.
Karen Erickson: you
Karen Erickson:
Emma Petersen Awwwe! You love me!
Karen Erickson: I do you know I do
Karen Erickson: I love you almost as much as I love Shia
Emma Petersen: OMG! Don’t make me cry! LMAO. Almost as much as Shia?
Emma Petersen: Awe.some.
Karen Erickson: Yeah! That’s a lot of love isn’t it?
Karen Erickson:
Karen Erickson: Though I also lust for him – I don’t lust for you, sorry. Just lurve you.
Emma Petersen: LMAO. Not even a little?
Emma Petersen: No don’t answer that. Just leave me to my dreams.
Emma Petersen: Thank you so much for doing this interview Karen and not smacking me during it.

LMAO. Dudes. That’s a wicked interview style you’ve got, Emma, and a wicked hot book you’ve got there, Diddy. Shadow dancing? Now I wanna Google…and, of course, read that book.
Bet it’s funny as hell. :)
I think you need an mmmmm, Shia smilie!
Yay, Karen. Congrats on the release!!!
E! really is the best.
Yay–new book to read–can’t wait (especially because I love the dragons)!
LOL EMMA YOU ARE SO WRONG IB LABELING KAREN A PORN ADDICT BUT I THINKS IT’S YOU THAT IS A CLOSET ADDICT! RIGHT KAREN? LOL
HMMMMMMMMMMM UGLY DRAGON HUH? WELL ORDER A TON OF “MINERALS” MAKEUP! LMAO!
Ha Linda suggested minerals makeup. That’s too funny…
And yeah Emma is the porn addict not me!
Love,
Congrats on the release and I like that our heroine is a little insecure Daisy’s someone that all readers can relate to except for the dragon thing but definitly the not liking your self sometimes.
Great interview. Congratulations to Karen on her new release.
LOL Great interview! Congrats on your new release, Karen! I love the idea of a shadow dancer heroine. I’m going to have to check it out. Well, you know I would have anyway, but still…
Love the interview. So does Daisy have dragonish markings all the time?
LOL great interview. Happy release day, Karen. Your book sounds awesome!
Shia is just too young for me-sigh but I can definitely see the appeal. Congrats on the new book Karen, buddy, and thanks for the awesome interview Emma!
This sounds like I’t would be a new book with the dragon thing, and the shadow dancing sounds interesting. Also your interview was pretty cool to.
I read the blurb on the EC website and thought it might be an interesting read. Until I read the interview above I hadn’t realised what type of shifter daisy was. Now I have to get this book cause I love dragons. Is shadow dancing something like “Flashdance” a-la Jennifer Beals?

Daisy always has dragon-esque features but she’s not a full blown dragon. Well she can shift but she rarely does…
And shadow dancing is when someone dances in front of a screen and all you can see is their sillhouette. It’s pretty cool!
[...] You can have ANOTHER chance at winning a copy of Hidden over at Emma Petersen’s blog. Emma is my friend, she interviewed me. It’s a silly interview but we also talk a lot about [...]
That’s a unique job, shadow dancing! Read the excerpt where the hero Sebastian was mush in Daisy’s presence! LOL!
Great interview! Hidden sounds great!
You two crack me up, thanks for my morning chuckle. Great excerpt up for Hidden on Karen’s blog, and I am always on the lookout for uber hot shifter stories.
That was such a cute interview! What a hoot!
Hidden sounds like a great book, I luv the name Sebastian! And I love dragon stories!
Shadow dancing sounds cool! I enjoyed reading your interview and would love to read more about Hidden. :)
Great storyline! I read the exert at Ellora’s Cave and already think you have a winner. Congrats!
Thanks for the interview. I love everything about dragons… Sounds like a great book!
(My sister’s name is Daisy and sometimes I think she is part dragon too..)
Hi Karen and Emma,
Funny interview. Shia is a cutie :)
I’m a dragon lover too,I’d love a chance to win Hidden. :D
Hugs, Danette
After reading this I DEFINITELY want a copy.
Great interview! A definite MUST read, it’s been added to my list (Just in case I don’t win).
